Doug’s 2023 Harvest Report

“It’s the Golden Hour.   The vines have given up their best fruit.  They are storing up what energy is left from the season and preparing for a long winter’s nap.

So too, the Brick House winemaking team.  Sixty-two tons of estate grapes  picked, sorted, fermented, pressed off and stored safely in barrels over the last fifty days, calling for a well-deserved rest.

And rest we shall.  Because not only did this vintage yield enough wine to fill our barrel room but it also gave us some of the most promising young wines in our thirty-three-year history.

A late start to the growing season followed by a summer of sunshine created grapes with just the right amount of sugar.  The lack of summer rains thickened the grape skins, ensuring deeply colored red wines and rich whites.

So now we are taking time to catch our breath, assured by the delicious prospects of 2023 in the years to come…and grateful for the gifts of this year’s Golden Hour.”

Below are some scenes from this year’s harvest, all captured by Alan Weiner. We hope you’ll appreciate the amount of hands (and feet!) that work together to create Brick House wines.
