August on the Farm

“You have to probe deep into the canopy and really look to find them; the very first berries to begin changing from green to black.

Grape growers world-wide know it as “veraison” and it’s not just color that is changing. It signals the end of the long, lazy days of easy chilled pink wines on the deck and seared fish on the grill while the grapes are maturing.

Veraison awakens winegrowers with a gentle tug and Mother Nature’s reminder of the inevitable: “Harvest is coming!” There’s no going back. Soon tons of sticky, black berries will need picking. All the juices –of both vines and wine growers -- will be in full flow.

Tanks to clean, equipment to prepare, crews to brief. With veraison, Mother Nature teaches that time is no longer yours to control.”
